Food with a clear origin
Barely half an hour north of Gardermoen you will find Sandsnes Gård, a family farm now run by the family's fourth generation, but with a history reaching all the way back to the Viking age.
On the farm the animals get to make use of the surrounding nature, from forest and meadow to the shoreline by Hurdalssjøen. Our goal is to make food with a clear origin: animals that have lived well, ingredients that follow the season, and products made with time, craftsmanship and respect. At the same time we want to develop a living farm and workplace, not only for us today, but also for the generations to come.
From the farm

Cattle
Limousin
At Sandsnes Gård we have 54 breeding cows of the Limousin cattle breed, a French beef breed known for lean, fine-fibred and tender meat with good flavour. In summer the cows graze in the forest just above the farm, before coming home to the pastures around the barn. We place great importance on calm animals, good handling and close attention. For us, good meat starts with animals that have lived well and been able to make use of nature.

Vegetables and flowers
From kitchen garden to farm operation
Vegetables, fruit, berries and flowers have always been an important part of the joy at Sandsnes Gård. What began as a small kitchen garden for our own use has grown into part of the farm operation during the summer months. We grow the seedlings ourselves, and everything is done by hand, from tending and harvesting to rinsing, packing and bouquet-tying. The selection follows the season, with fresh vegetables, berries and natural, slightly wild garden bouquets travelling only a short way from soil to table.

Hens
Free-roaming yard hens and colourful eggs
We have several different breeds of hen on the farm, and this diversity gives their eggs natural colours and variety. We hatch most of the hens ourselves, and the flock is renewed gradually with young hens as the older ones retire. The hens live as free-roaming yard hens, with plenty of space outdoors and access to the yard, meadow and pasture throughout the season.

Sheep
Old Norwegian Spæl sheep
At Sandsnes Gård we keep Old Norwegian Spæl sheep, a hardy Norwegian breed with an important place in our farming history. The sheep have access to outdoor areas all year round, and in summer they graze both around the farm and in the forest just above us. This gives flavourful lamb with a clear mark of nature, pasture and plenty of time.
«We find our driving force in the joy and closeness to life, nature and its gifts, but not least also in all the conversations, visits and responses we receive from customers, familiar faces and strangers alike.»
, Jens-Johan and Silje, Sandsnes Gård
